1. Who we are
Scottish Outposts is a travel-content website about road-tripping Scotland, run by OWNER NAME. We publish guides, itineraries and reviews, and we earn revenue through advertising and affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure(/affiliate-disclosure/)).
2. The personal data we collect
We only collect what we need:
- Information you give us — for example, your name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter or download our free ebook, or the contents of any message you send us via the contact form or email.
- Information collected automatically — when you use the Site we may collect your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and referring website, through cookies and similar technologies (see our Cookie Policy(/cookie-policy/)).
- Advertising & analytics data — our advertising and analytics partners (such as Google) may collect data about your visit to serve and measure ads and understand traffic. See section 6.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16, and we do not collect special-category data.
3. How we use your data and our lawful basis
You can withdraw consent at any time (e.g. unsubscribe link in every email, or the cookie settings link in our footer).
4. Email marketing
If you subscribe, we use MailerLite / ConvertKit — your email provider to store your details and send you emails. Every email includes an unsubscribe link. We never sell or rent your email address.
5. Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the Site, including:
- Website hosting: Hostinger
- Email marketing: our domain email provider
- Analytics: Google Analytics (Google LLC)
- Advertising: Google AdSense and its certified partners
- Affiliate networks: Amazon Associates and others (see Affiliate Disclosure)
Some of these providers are based outside the UK/EEA. Where data is transferred internationally, it is protected by appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement / Addendum or an adequacy decision.
6. Advertising, Google & cookies
We use Google AdSense and Google Analytics. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads and measure engagement based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to our Site and/or other sites.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), or opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info.
- For visitors in the UK/EEA, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies via our cookie banner. You can change your choices any time via the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.
Full details are in our Cookie Policy(/cookie-policy/).
7. How long we keep your data
- Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data.
- Contact enquiries: up to 24 months after our last correspondence.
- Analytics/advertising data: per the retention settings of Google and our other providers.
8. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to: access your data; have it corrected or erased; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and to withdraw consent. To exercise any right, contact us at contactus@scottishoutposts.co.uk.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) — ico.org.uk — but we’d appreciate the chance to help first.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption on the Site. No online transmission is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows the latest version.
