Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: 10 August 2026

Scottish Outposts (scottishoutposts.co.uk) is a reader-supported website. To keep our guides free, we earn revenue through advertising and affiliate links. This page explains what that means — clearly and honestly — in line with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) / CAP Code and the requirements of the affiliate programmes we belong to.

What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a special tracking link. If you click one and go on to buy something, we may earn a small commission — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is exactly the same. Think of it as buying us a coffee for pointing you in the right direction.

The Amazon disclosure

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Scottish Outposts is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.co.uk.

Other affiliate partners

We may also earn commission through other programmes and networks, which can include (among others) accommodation and campsite booking platforms, motorhome and car hire companies, ferry operators, tour and experience providers, and outdoor-gear retailers. Where we take part in these, the same principle applies: you pay no more, and we only ever link to things we’d genuinely suggest.

How we mark affiliate content

  • Pages containing affiliate links carry a visible disclosure (usually near the top of the page or beside the relevant link).
  • Where required, individual links or blocks are labelled (e.g. “ad” / “affiliate”).
  • Sponsored or gifted content, if we ever publish it, will always be clearly identified as such.

Our promise

  • We only recommend what we rate. Our opinions are our own and based on real experience touring Scotland. A commission never buys a good review.
  • Honesty first. If something has downsides, we’ll tell you — that’s the whole point of Scottish Outposts.
  • Prices and availability change. Always check the final price, terms and details on the retailer’s own site before you buy or book. See our Disclaimer(/disclaimer/).

Advertising

We also display ads through Google AdSense and its partners. How advertising cookies work, and how to control them, is covered in our Cookie Policy(/cookie-policy/) and Privacy Policy(/privacy-policy/).
