Travel information changes

Scotland’s roads, ferries, weather, prices, opening hours, parking rules and businesses change constantly — often at short notice. Details that were accurate when we wrote a page may be out of date by the time you read it. Always check current, official information before you travel or make a booking, including:

  • road and pass conditions and closures (e.g. Traffic Scotland);
  • ferry timetables and cancellations (e.g. CalMac, NorthLink);
  • weather and mountain forecasts (e.g. Met Office, MWIS);
  • opening times, prices and parking/overnight rules with the individual operator.

Driving, parking and overnight stays

Guidance on routes, single-track roads, vehicle suitability, parking and overnight stopping is our opinion and experience only, not professional or legal advice. Rules (including whether a car park permits overnight stays, charges a fee, or has a height barrier) change. You are responsible for driving legally and safely, for your vehicle’s suitability and dimensions, and for complying with all signage, byelaws and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
